Forsaking Our Hope

Forsaking Our Hope

Jeremiah 17:13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be shamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters

We should always remember that the Lord is our hope and that we should always trust and hope in Him. It would be very foolish to depart from this hope and yet that is what every unbeliever does who turns aside and departs from the living God. He is the living God and so He is our life and our salvation. They that forsake the Lord forsake their own mercy.

To forsake the Lord would be to have our names written in the earth. They trusted and gloried in the things of this present evil age and so it is only right and proper that this alone will be their only portion and inheritance. Names written in earth do not abide very long but will be swept away with the dust of the earth. How much better to have our names written in heaven. Our Lord Jesus said to His disciples glory not that the devils are subject unto you, but rather glory that your names are written in heaven. A name written in heaven will be permanent for all eternity and should be greatly desired above anything on earth.

The Lord is a fountain of living waters to all those who are truly His. However those who forsake Him forsake Him for broken cisterns which can hold no water. Those who follow the Lord Jesus Christ will find that He leads them to fountains of living waters. Those who trust in the Lord shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes (Revelation 7:16-17). Let's follow our Lord Jesus all the days of our life that we too may find these living waters.
