Psalm 119:81 My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.
Many people place their hope in many different things but are often disappointed. Often the things of this world are like foaming waves on the sea. They look impressive and powerful for a time but then they crash onto the beach never to be seen again. The things of this world which are seen are temporal but the spiritual things which are not seen are eternal. It is therefore in the spiritual things of God's Word that we should place our hope, for this only is a sure foundation for our hope.
We sometimes become so tired and weary in body and mind that we feel like we might faint, but what if our soul fainted? There is only one cure for a fainting soul and that is the salvation of God that we find in our Lord Jesus Christ.
In our soul's distress we should seek no deliverance other than in God's deliverance. We should hope in no word apart from God's Word. To hope in God's Word is to hope in all the promises it contains. God is not a man that He should lie, so that we know that all the promises of God are yes and amen. As we place our hope in God's written word we are also placing our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ because He is the living Word which came down from heaven. His name is called "The Word Of God" (Revelation 19:13). Let's place our hope in God's unchanging and eternal Word, for all who do will never be disappointed.
