Joel 3:16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.
Are we God fearing people? Are we those who are of a humble and contrite spirit and who tremble at His Word (Isaiah 66:2)? If not we should learn something from the heavens and the earth because at the voice of the Lord the heavens and the earth will shake at the sound of it. If the earth itself shakes with fear, should not the people of the earth also?
When the Lord descended on Mount Sinai the mountain was said to shake greatly : and mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly (Exodus 19:18). The effect of this on the people was when all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw
it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die (Ex 20:18-19). When the Lord descends on that great last day of Judgment it will not be just one mountain that shakes but the entire earth will shake! How terrible then for those who know not God.
It could not be more different on that day for the people of God because on that day the LORD will be the hope of His people and the strength of the true spiritual children of Israel. Let's place our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ now that He will be our help then.
Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God. (Psalm 146:5)
