Psalm 103:11-12 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
Did you know the Bible talks about geography? You know – north, south, east, and west? Did you notice it says so far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. It doesn't say as far as the north is from the south, but rather as far the east is from the west so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
If you travelled north you can only travel so far before you reach the top of the world at the North Pole. And then once you get passed that you would then be travelling south. You would then make your 20,000 kilometre (12,500 mile) journey south to the South Pole, you'd turn the corner and then you'd be travelling north again! In contrast going east to west has no limit. If you started walking east for 100 miles you would still be walking east. Say if you went east for 10,000 miles you would still be walking east. How about if you went east for 1,000,000 miles – even after that you would still be going east. Get the picture? In fact you could go east for all of eternity and you would still be going east.
So travelling north or south has its limits – whereas travelling east or west has no limit. So when God forgives us our sins it is also without limit. They have been perfectly removed from us 100%. Just like we could travel east for all of eternity and not meet the west, in the same way we can travel through all of eternity and not meet our sins because the Lord has so perfectly removed our sins from us that we will never meet them again forever. The blood of our Lord Jesus Christ is a perfect remedy for sin. No wonder it says "so great is his mercy toward them that fear him".
